IT Learning Center

The IT Learning Center is here to help all School of Information Technology students succeed, whether you are on campus or fully online. Our center is staffed by Teaching Assistants from UC’s PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor's programs in Information Technology, so you will be working with knowledgeable peers who understand your courses, your projects, and the technologies that you are using. They specialize in core undergraduate and graduate IT subjects, making it easier to get targeted help that directly supports your classwork.

Online students can easily schedule a virtual appointment with a Teaching Assistant using the Microsoft Virtual Bookings portal. The Student Success Program in the School of Information Technology helps students build strong habits in areas like time management, study strategies, goal setting, and professional communication skills that are especially important for online learners balancing school with work and life. Through one-on-one coaching with trained Student Success Coaches, who are fellow students, you get personalized support from someone who understands the realities of college life and remote learning. The program uses a project-based approach to help you identify the most effective time management tools for organizing your courses, tracking deadlines, and staying on top of your responsibilities from anywhere.

Online students are encouraged to fill out a Coach Request Form or send an email to stusucpro@ucmail.uc.edu for additional support. More information regarding this resource can be found on the Student Success Program webpage. 

***Please note that any online student enrolled in the "First Year Experience" course is required to meet with a student success coach.

UC’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides comprehensive support for online distance learners through confidential tele-mental health services. Students have access to individual counseling, consultations, and crisis support, all delivered through secure video or phone, making it easy to connect with care from any location.

To get started, students can schedule an initial appointment by calling CAPS during business hours at 513-556-0648 or by using UC’s online health portal. During this first appointment, CAPS staff help assess individual needs and offer guidance on next steps, which may include ongoing virtual counseling or referrals to mental health resources within a student’s local community.

In addition to direct services, CAPS also offers online workshops, outreach programming, and self-help tools that students can access at their convenience. These resources are designed to help distance learners stay connected, build coping skills, and effectively manage stress and personal challenges while learning remotely.

For students residing outside of Ohio, UC also provides access to TimelyCare, a 24/7 virtual mental health platform. TimelyCare offers on-demand emotional support, scheduled counseling visits, and a variety of self-care resources, ensuring that students can receive support whenever and wherever they need it.

The University Writing Center supports UC’s distance learners by offering online appointments that connect students with trained writing consultants from anywhere. Online students can schedule virtual sessions through the Writing Center’s online scheduling system, accessible via the website at, where they can choose a consultant, select a time, and indicate whether they prefer a live online consultation or written feedback on a draft.

During these one on one sessions, students can receive support at any stage of the writing process, from understanding an assignment and brainstorming ideas to revising and polishing final papers. The Writing Center also offers online resources and guides to help distance learners build long-term writing skills, ensuring they feel supported and confident in their academic and professional writing

The Bearcat Promise Career Studio supports distance learners by offering flexible, accessible career development resources tailored to virtual needs. Students can schedule one-on-one virtual career coaching sessions through Handshake, where they receive personalized guidance to help achieve their career goals. 

Handshake also makes it easy for online students to register for and attend virtual events that build professional skills and connections from anywhere. In addition, the Career Studio provides online job search tools, interview preparation resources, and how-to guidance through its website. You can visit the Career Studio site here.
