Why study Social Science Research?

The Social Science Research certificate in the School of Criminal Justice is for those who wish to gain advanced and applied training in social sciences research. The certificate provides undergraduate students with hands-on skills training across a variety of technical aspects of conducting research in the social sciences, applied research experiences and/or enhanced depth and breadth of knowledge on research-relevant topics.

Students from any discipline can learn the skills and apply them to their own research or employment work across a variety of sectors where research occurs. The certificate includes 3 required applied skills courses offered by the School of Criminal Justice (7 credits) and several additional electives (8 credits) that can be completed by taking a variety of other courses offered at UC.

Earn your Social Science Research certificate from the School of Criminal Justice! The certificate in social science research offers advanced and applied training in social sciences research. This certificate equips undergraduate students with hands-on skills across various technical aspects of social sciences research, providing both applied research experiences and in-depth knowledge on research-relevant topics.

Open to students from any discipline, this certificate allows you to apply these skills to your own research or employment across diverse sectors. The program includes 3 required applied skills courses (7 credits) offered by the School of Criminal Justice, along with several elective courses (8 credits) available through other departments at UC.

Admission Requirements

This certificate is open to any currently enrolled undergraduate at UC who has a 2.0 GPA or higher.

Students who leave UC with a foundation in their respective disciplines and this certificate are going to be far more prepared and more appealing to organizations that are increasingly concerned with evidence-based practices, continuous quality improvement, and data-driven decision-making. As such, they are hiring people to facilitate these goals in-house.

Graduates with this certificate will be prepared for the careers listed below. All opportunities may not be listed.

  • Complete all required course work and program requirements, including course specific grades.
  • Obtain at least a 2.0 university grade point average.
  • Be in good academic standing; that is, not on academic or disciplinary probation or suspension.
