Projects & Partnerships

Developing, fostering, and maintain partnerships is a key priority for the Human Services Research and Innovation Center.  Drawing from resident experts in areas ranging from education, health and performance, and equity and wellness, HSRIC seeks collaboration opportunities on projects in these areas.  Some of our more recent projects and collaborations include:

  • Collaborating with The Health Collaborative, Dr. Laura Nabors and Dr. Regan Johnson started a recent project to identify community health challenges of the local region as part of the Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).  The CHNA investigates the health inequities that exist and the root causes of health disparities across populations, why people are experiencing those preventable health problems, and how the social determinants of health impact these health outcomes.
  • Dr. Keith King and Dr. Rebecca Vidourek have provided multi-year evaluation services for the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Statewide Postvention Infrastructure and Evaluation project and have previously been contracted to provide services and research for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, SAMHSA, and various other health organizations.
  • Dr. Neil Deochand has worked on behalf of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services to deliver uniquely tailored trainings for professionals of varying expertise levels to help standardize best practices in graphing behavioral data.  Visual inspection can be greatly improved by graphical aides as well as an understanding of single-subject designs to improve the welfare and quality of life for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Building graphical displays during assessment and intervention efficiently and effectively enables professionals to improve clinical decision-making and make treatment recommendations that are based on the data.
  • In another ongoing project, Dr. Ashley Merianos, has continued research on the impact of secondhand smoke on children.  Dr. Merianos partners with the medical expertise of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital to show just how detrimental secondhand smoke is for children.
  • Dr. Amanda La Guardia and Dr. Michael Brubaker, licensed professional and chemical dependency counselors, along with Dr. Tai Collins, whose expertise is in school psychology, partnered with colleagues in Social Work to work on a counselor-in-training program as they develop skills to treat at-risk child, adolescent and young adult populations under a workforce grant Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
  • Dr. Julie Morrison, with more than 20 years of experience as an evaluator of educational initiatives, currently serves on the Joint Committee on Standards in Educational Evaluation as a liaison member representing the National Association of School Psychologists.  Dr. Morrison most recently has performed program evaluation work for the Ohio Department of Education and the SPDG program.
