Social Science Research

Explore in-depth social science research methods in our specialized certificate program, housed within the School of Criminal Justice at the College of Education, Criminal Justice, Human Services, and Information Technology. The certificate program is designed to provide students with hands-on skills training across a variety of technical aspects involved with conducting research in the social sciences, applied research experiences and/or enhanced depth and breadth of knowledge on research-relevant topics.

Today's world of criminal justice is increasingly concerned with evidence-based practices, continuous quality improvement, and data-driven decision-making. This certificate can help set students up for success as in-house researchers, offering specialized education that hasn't traditionally been systematically incorporated into criminal justice programs.

Students from any discipline can learn the skills taught in this certificate program and apply them to their own research or employment work across a variety of sectors where research occurs. These skills are highly sought after in the field of criminal justice, and students who complete the program will be well-positioned to succeed in roles such as research analyst, social worker, policy analyst, and community service manager. The certificate includes 3 required applied skills courses offered by the School of Criminal Justice (7 credits) and several additional electives (8 credits) that can be completed by taking a variety of other courses offered at UC.
