Registering for Classes

You are responsible for completing your course enrollment every semester. Follow these steps to ensure your registration is completed on time and accurately.

  1. Know your enrollment time: Your enrollment time is the day and time at which you can begin enrolling in classes. In the fall and spring semesters, you will receive an email when your enrollment time for the next semester becomes available (usually between weeks 5 and 7). You can also view your enrollment time in Catalyst > My Academics > Classes and Schedule > View Assigned Enrollment Time.
  2. Resolve holds: Check your Tasks tile in Catalyst to see if you have any service indicators, or holds that will block you from registering. Some common holds include:
    1. Academic Advising Hold: Your major or your academic standing might require that you meet with your academic advisor. To resolve this hold, schedule and attend an appointment with your academic advisor. If you do not have an assigned advisor in CECH, you can email cechssc@ucmail.uc.edu for assistance.
    2. Past Due Account Balance Hold: You may have a balance on your account from unpaid tuition, fees, or other educational expenses. To resolve this hold, you can pay your bill or contact Enrollment Services if you have questions about financial aid that may apply toward your bill.
    3. Admissions Hold: You may have a hold due to missing materials such as a high school transcript. Contact admissions@uc.edu if you need assistance resolving these holds.
  3. Identify what courses you need to take: Review any materials from your academic advisor to identify what courses you may need for the upcoming semester. You may find course recommendations in your degree audit, curriculum plan, or My Grad Plan. If you are unsure of what classes to take, you can either email or schedule an appointment with your academic advisor.
  4. Review course offerings: After identifying the courses you need, check the course offerings for that semester to review your enrollment options. You may have a choice of where, when and how your course is delivered.

You can start building a schedule before your registration time so that it’s ready to go when your enrollment opens.

You can select courses one of two ways. The first is by using the Create My Schedule tool in Catalyst, which will provide you with a number of different options for how your preferred courses can fit together. The second option is to individually search for courses in Catalyst > My Academics > Classes and Schedule > Search for Classes.

When you have found the class sections you are interested in, you can send them to your “shopping cart,” which is the temporary holding zone for your classes until you finish enrolling. However, be aware that some courses may fill quickly. Be open to adjusting your schedule as needed.

At or after your enrollment time, you can begin enrolling in the courses that are in your shopping cart. It’s important to register as soon as possible to ensure that you reserve a seat in the courses you need.
