ESL English Placement Test (ESL ENPT)

The ESL English Placement Test (ESL ENPT) is ONLY for international or immigrant students whose first language is not English and who do not have current TOEFL iBT, IELTS, SAT, or ACT scores.

If you are a native speaker of English, please contact your academic advisor for assistance or visit English Composition Program for your English writing requirements.

If you have taken TOEFL iBT, IELTS, SAT or ACT, you do NOT need to take this test. You will be placed into ESL/English classes based on your test score following the Undergraduate Placement Guide.

If you are an international student and have taken both TOEFL iBT / IELTS and SAT / ACT, you do not need to take the test. You will be placed into ESL classes based on the highest score you have received from the above tests following the Undergraduate Placement Guide.

Registration - What Do I Need To Do To Take The ESL ENPT?

The ESL English Placement Test is facilitated via Blackboard and is available year round. Please contact CESL Testing Office via email to register for the English Placement Tests. In your email, please include the following:

  1. Your full name
  2. M number
  3. Username (6+2)
  4. Your College/Department
  5. The test(s) you need: ESL ENPT

How To Access Canvas and ESL ENPT

1. Go to http://canopy.uc.edu and click Student login.

2. Log in with your UC username and password, click Courses on the left side column and you will see ESL English Placement Test (ESL ENPT)

3. Click the link and you will access ESL ENPT

4. Follow the instructions on Home page.

NOTE:

Once you are admitted to the University of Cincinnati, you will be given access to the Canvas website. If you do not have Canvas access, please contact your academic advisor.

 

To Advisors;

Since students cannot self-enroll in the ESL ENPT page, please contact CESL Testing Office at esl1@uc.edu to register for the test. In the email, please include student's full name, M-number, and usename.
