Dr. Betsy Matthews
Betsy Matthews earned her PhD in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati in 2004 and is currently an Associate Professor and coordinator of online programming in the School of Justice Studies at Eastern Kentucky University. She has worked as a child care worker in a residential treatment facility for behaviorally disordered adolescent girls, an adult probation officer in Greene County, Ohio, and a research associate with the American Probation and Parole Association. Her primary teaching and research interests include juvenile justice, community corrections, and correctional rehabilitation. Her most recent research focuses on women involved in the criminal justice system and the role of social capital in desistance from crime. Dr. Matthews serves as a consultant with the University of Cincinnati Corrections Institute providing training and technical assistance to state and federal agencies on risk assessment and other evidence-based practices.
