The Gifted Endorsement at the University of Cincinnati Online is designed for licensed K-12 teachers who want to enhance their ability to differentiate instruction and better serve the learning styles of their gifted-identified students.
What is Gifted Education?
The federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act defines gifted and talented students as “Students, children, or youth who give evidence of high achievement capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields, and who need services and activities not ordinarily provided by the school in order to fully develop those capabilities.” [Title IX, Part A, Definition 22. (2002)] Many states and districts follow the federal definition.
Gifted Education consists of theories, practices, and procedures designed for students who have been identified as gifted or talented. This method of teaching help high-ability students remain engaged to continue advancing in their education.
University of Cincinnati’s Gifted Education Endorsement
The Gifted Education endorsement is offered 100% online, providing flexibility for modern teachers. This program will instruct teachers on how to provide their high-ability students ways to reach their full potential. Teachers will learn from experienced and renowned faculty from a nationally-ranked college.
The program is a research-to-practice model that allows the student to implement research-based practices into the classroom and immediately enhance the learning outcomes of students.
Contents of this program satisfy the coursework requirement for the Ohio Department of Education’s Gifted, Creative, and Talented Endorsement and meets Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standard.
Ohio Assessment for Educators (OAE) Test Pass Rate – Our students have a 98% pass rate for the OAE test.
What will I learn in the Gifted Endorsement?
- You will learn historical foundations and issues related to the schooling, learning and instruction of students identified as having special educational needs.
- You will learn how to accurately identify and assess learners who are gifted, creative or talented by gaining knowledge centered-around modern and up to date methodologies.
- You will learn strategies of gifted and talented education that provide improved classroom management, social-emotional support, and sharpen cognitive abilities for students who are gifted, creative, or talented.
- You will learn instructional strategies and materials to support students identified as gifted, creative, or talented.
- You will learn how to utilize quality tools for collaboration, consultation, and communication.
- You will learn how to help gifted students advance their education by developing knowledge, understanding, and respecting the needs and requirements of students with learning needs in varied educational settings.
- Additionally, the practicum course provides an opportunity to practice the skills and demonstrate the appropriate dispositions in a classroom setting by engaging in teaching and action research activities. foundations and issues related to the schooling, learning and instruction of students identified as having special educational needs.
