Why study College Teaching?
The Graduate Certificate in College Teaching helps graduate students develop the skills and confidence needed to teach in college and university settings. Designed for students across disciplines, the program emphasizes effective teaching, professional development, and accessibility in higher education.
Students select from a wide range of courses, allowing them to tailor the certificate to their academic interests and career goals. This student-centered program supports both academic and professional growth while preparing future educators to succeed in a range of learning environments.
Admission Requirements
Applications are accepted for all three entry terms (Fall, Spring and Summer).
Admission Requirements include:
- A baccalaureate degree (any major) from an accredited institution
- A minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
- Resume or curriculum vitae
- Letter of recommendation
- Transcripts from all previous institutions attended
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in College Teaching are well prepared for teaching and education-focused roles in higher education. The program strengthens instructional skills, supports the development of a professional teaching portfolio, and helps graduates stand out in a competitive academic job market.
Graduates may pursue roles such as:
- College or university instructor
- Graduate teaching assistant with advanced pedagogical training
- Instructional designer or curriculum developer

In order to graduate from the UC College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services, a student must:
- Complete all required course work and program requirements.
- Obtain at least a 3.0 program grade point average.
- Be in good academic standing; that is, not on academic or disciplinary probation or suspension.
- Apply to graduate through the online portal on the Graduate School website by the posted graduation deadline.
International Students must submit TOEFL scores in alignment with the Graduate School requirements.
