Early Childhood Education Student Information

The Early Childhood Education Program welcomes you!

This web page will be used throughout your time in the program and contains information you will need to be familiar with to support you on your journey to becoming an educator.

All ECE students are required to be read and understand the ECE Education Program Handbook. This handbook outlines the policies and procedures of the program. Please contact the ECE Program Coordinator, Amy Mayfield, or the ECE Field Coordinator, Julie Walson, with any questions you have regarding the contents of the handbook.

Professional Cohort Year 1 - Junior Year

During Fall Semester, candidates in their first year of professional cohort participate in a field experience known as Preschool Practicum. If successful in Preschool Practicum, ECE students will participate in Kindergarten Practicum during Spring Semester. Candidates in Preschool Practicum are assigned a mentor in an area school by the ECE Field Coordinator, Julie Walson. The chart below identifies the forms candidates are responsible for completing during Year 1 of the Professional Cohort. The ECE Field Coordinator will provide more specific deadlines for all documents at the beginning of the term they are due.

The School of Education has an urban mission, and at least one of these two field experiences will most likely take place in an urban setting.
