Early Childhood Mentor Information

Welcome mentor teachers!

Throughout the program, mentor teachers will need to access documents on this page to support, monitor, and assess candidate growth. Mentor teachers can also reference the Student Information and Supervisor Information pages from the menu on the left side of the page.

All ECE students are required to be read and understand the ECE Education Program Handbook. This handbook outlines the policies and procedures of the program.

Mentors will need complete documentation throughout their work with ECE candidates. The ECE Field Coordinator will provide orientations to schools to support the work of mentors, supervisors, and candidates prior to the start of the term.

Professional Cohort Year 1 - Junior Year

During the first year of professional cohort, students will participate in two field experiences, Preschool Practicum (Fall) and Kindergarten Practicum (Spring). The chart below identifies the forms mentors teachers are responsible for completing during these two field experiences. The ECE Field Coordinator will provide more specific deadlines for all documents at the beginning of the term they are due.

October Midterm Form Our Midterm form is to be completed by the candidate and the mentor individually. After completion, the candidate and mentor will meet to discuss. A paper copy of the document will be submitted to the supervisor.

CPAST Consensus Score Form (DOC) 

This document guides candidates through the process of rating themselves in several areas aligned with Ohio Standards of the Teaching Profession, EdTPA, and CAEP accreditation standards. The CPAST Individual Score Form is completed independently by the candidate, the mentor teacher, and the university supervisor. All three parties bring their completed assessments to a triad meeting to complete the CPAST Consensus Form and develop goals for their senior year field experiences.

Professional Cohort Year 2 - Senior Year

During the final year of professional cohort candidates participate in a field experience known as Internship. Candidates in internship participate in all field experiences with the same mentor teacher.

There are three stages to internship:

  • Opening School Portion of Practicum (Starts mid-August)
  • Primary Practicum (Mondays and Tuesdays in Fall Semester)
  • Internship (Spring Semester)

The chart below identifies the forms mentor teachers are responsible for completing during the academic year for internship year candidates. The ECE Field Coordinator will provide more specific deadlines for all documents at the beginning of the term they are due.

This observation form is used by both mentor teachers to provide written feedback to candidates on observed instruction. Mentor teachers complete four formal lesson observations in Fall Semester and one in Spring Semester.

Collaborative Assessment Log (CAL) (PDF)

This document is used by candidates and mentors to support discussion of professional growth. In some situations, supervisors may require for CALs to be completed and submitted via e-mail to best monitor candidate success and support open communication.

Brief Disposition Report: Early Childhood Education The Candidate Dispositions Brief Report is an incident report used by instructors, faculty members, university supervisors, and mentor teachers to report exemplary dispositions or a concern. A concern may be a single incident or a pattern of incidents, and may include candidate language, comments, interactions, or professionalism. If a concern is documented, action at some level is required.
