Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement

Female teacher reads to young children

Under existing Ohio licensure standards, early childhood teachers are licensed to teach Pre Kindergarten to Grade Three.  In response to requests from the field, the Ohio Department of Education has created an endorsement to permit teachers to add grades Four and Five education to their current teaching license. The Early Childhood Generalist Endorsement (grades four and five) will permit individuals who hold a current valid Early Childhood license to teach all core academic content areas in grades four and five.  It may be added to an Early Childhood P-3 teaching license upon evidence of completion of the hours of study aligned with the Ohio academic content standards for grades four and five, including preparation in pedagogy and child/adolescent development appropriate for grades four and five, and upon successful completion of an examination prescribed by the state board of education.
