The AACRC and Sport Administration Sponsor Black History Sports Panel

The University of Cincinnati's African American Cultural and Resource Center (AACRC) and Sport Administration Program joined forces to host a Black History Sports Panel on February 2 at the AACRC. The event welcomed over 130 students and faculty across campus as well as members of the Cincinnati community. The event highlighted successful African-American men and women connected with the University who work or have participated in sports at an elite level.

The creators of the event wanted to promote the importance of showing our students that success is attainable despite barriers that may exist in the sport industry. The panel, moderated by School of Education Professor Dr. Robin Martin, consisted of six members of the Cincinnati community:

Mary Wineberg, Cincinnati alumna and Olympic gold medalist; Katrina Merriweather, Cincinnati alumna and head coach for Wright State University’s women’s basketball; Karen Hatcher, Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director, External Affairs for UC Athletics; Steve Hightower, Minority Owner of FC Cincinnati soccer team, and President/CEO of Hightower Petroleum Co.; and, Carl Satterwhite, UC Alum, President and Owner of RCF Group, and Minority Owner of the Cincinnati Reds. The event highlighted a wide array of students and staff in the African American community while bringing together diverse groups of people across campus and the Cincinnati area.
