Seeking Nominations: The Piyush Swami Award for Excellence in Doctoral Student Mentoring

CECH graduate students and alumni are encouraged to submit nominations for a new faculty mentoring award to be presented in spring 2015. The Piyush Swami Award for Excellence in Doctoral Student Mentoring may be awarded to any CECH faculty member who has served in the role of advisor or chair for doctoral students within the last three years.

Designed to recognize excellence in mentoring future leaders, the award acknowledges a faculty member who has by played a pivotal role in the success of his or her students, while also contributing to academic advancements in their field of study. Former CECH faculty member and current doctoral student advisor Dr. Carla Johnson established and named the award for her own faculty advisor, Dr. Piyush Swami. Dr. Johnson hopes not only to honor his achievements, but also to celebrate the hard work of doctoral student advisors and chairs.

The application process for this award must be initiated by a combination of at least one current and one former doctoral student who have worked with the faculty member. In the application, students should detail how the advisor has significantly impacted their success both at UC (current student) and in their career after the degree (former student).
