Alumni Give Back at Year's End

Hello alumni and friends,

As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, I want to express my sincere gratitude for all you do for the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH). Because of loyal alumni like you, our College continues to grow and thrive. We welcomed a record freshman class, we’ve hired 11 new faculty, and we’ve established five new student scholarship funds.

Perhaps most impressive, your contributions enabled us to award more than $850,000 in scholarship funding for the 2013-2014 academic school year--$155,000 in renewable four-year scholarships to incoming freshmen and $707,000 in one-time scholarships to continuing CECH graduate and undergraduate students. Without question, your support makes an impact on the lives of our students as they pursue their dreams of higher education.

With the year coming to a close, we hope you will consider including CECH in your 2014 charitable giving plans.

Earlier this month, I had the honor of meeting Dr. Doris Edwards, a registered nurse and 1984 graduate of our Educational Leadership Program. With her doctoral degree, Doris advanced her career in nursing education and administration before her eventual retirement as Dean of Nursing Emerita of Capital University. Like so many others, Doris expressed her gratitude for the opportunities she received here, particularly the mentorship and guidance she received from her doctoral advisor, Dr. Nancy Evers. Now Doris is ‘paying it forward’ by helping to complete an endowed scholarship in Dr. Evers’ name. In addition to her own annual gifts, she plans to approach former classmates and colleagues to solicit the final $7,000 needed to complete the endowment. As Doris puts it, “Nancy, with her characteristic grace and enthusiasm for possibilities, welcomed me to the study of higher ed administration. I give because of the example Nancy Evers set for leadership in education.”

Each year, I am inspired by those, like Doris, who give back to our great College. I hope you, too, will be inspired to give to your alma mater. We have identified our top 10 funding priorities this year, and we welcome gifts of all sizes to any and all program areas of our College. Every gift makes a difference; every dollar counts toward building a better future for our students, our campus, and the community.

Our development staff are available to answer your questions and help you designate your gift to your area of passion. We invite you to click here to make your gift online, or navigate to to learn more about how you can give back through gifts of time, talent, and treasure.

With gratitude,
