Dr. Kathy Koenig is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment between Science (STEM) Education and the Department of Physics.  Prior to coming to the University of Cincinnati, she taught high school physics for 6 years at Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati, OH.  She later earned her PhD in Physics Education and spent 6 years as a faculty member in the Department of Physics at Wright State University in Dayton, OH.  Her research interests include the implementation and evaluation of teaching pedagogies that support student success and retention in introductory college-level STEM courses (primary focus is physics), along with the development and evaluation of curriculum that targets K-16 student scientific reasoning abilities.  Dr. Koenig’s research has been nationally funded since 2006, and her published research appears in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals including Science and Physical Review Special Topics: Physics Education Research as well as journals for practicing educators such as Journal of College Science Teaching and Science Scope.  She has presented 13 invited talks at international and national forums along with almost 90 contributed talks and posters at national and international forums.  She was a 2012 Darwin T. Turner Breakfast of Champions Awardee and has been awarded the 2011 Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology at the International Conference on College Teaching and Learning as well as the 2009 Presidential Early Career Achievement Award.
