ESL ENPT (English Placement Test)

The ESL English Placement Test (ESL ENPT) is ONLY for international or immigrant students whose first language is not English and who do not have current TOEFL iBT or IELTS subscores.

If you are a native speaker of English, please contact your academic advisor for assistance or visit English Composition Program for your English writing requirements.

If you are an international student and have taken SAT or ACT, you do NOT need to take this test. Please contact your academic advisor for assistance or visit English Composition Program

If you have taken TOEFL iBT or IELTS within the past year, you do NOT need to take this test. You will be placed into ESL/English classes based on your TOEFL or IELTS results. 

Test scores must be sent to UC directly from the testing agency. Please select UC as a recipient of your scores. Please visit the following websites for more details on how to send scores.

Testing Schedules - When do I take this test?

Writing

ESL ENPT - Writing

The ESL English Placement Test is faciliated via Blackboard and is not completed at a tradional on-site testing center or classroom facility. Please refer to "How to access Blackbaord and ESL ENPT page."

ESL ENPT - Oral

The ESL ENPT oral is a face-to-face interview for 5 to 10 minutes. Students will be asked questions about their areas of study, experiences, and opinions.

Registration - What do I need to do to take the test?

Please contact directly Yukiko Nishida (nishidyo@mail.uc.edu) to register for the English Placement Tests. In your email, please include the following:

  1. Your full name
  2. M number
  3. Unsername (6+2)
  4. The test(s) you need

If you are unsure whether you are required to take ENPT or not, please consult with your academic advisor or contact the CESL office.

How to access Blackboard and ESL ENPT

1. Go to http://blackboard.uc.edu and login.
log-in page
2. You will see UC12_benedems_001: ESL English Placement Test on the left side column under "My Courses." 
3. Click the link and skip to #6
4. If not, click the Courses tab on top.
5. Enter "ESL English Placement Test" in the Course Search Box.
6. Click on UC12_benedems_001.
7. Follow the instructions on "Welcome" page.

NOTE:

Once you are admitted to the University of Cincinnati, you will be given access to the Blackboard website. If you do not have Blackboard acess, please contact your academic advisor.

To Advisors;

Since students cannot self-enroll in the ESL ENPT page, please contact Yukiko Nishida at nishidyo@mail.uc.edu to register for the test. In the email, please include student's full name, M-number, and usename (if any).
